Child care options in Australia
|
|
| |
Long day care – suitable for children less than five years old, and not yet in the regular school system. These day care centres operate on long hours, at least forty-eight weeks a year.
Family day care – takes in a smaller number of children compared to a day care centre, and can be found in a family home setting. A caretaker and daycare assistants will provide personalised routines for two to seven children throughout the day.
Flexible time options – whatever their pattern, all types of day care centres may offer different schedules to fit in with the needs of parents and guardians. These are full-time and part-time daycare services, shifts for rotating shift workers, occasional and casual daycare for those who need to meet appointments.
You'll find before - and after-school arrangements, and even vacation and overnight stays in some family childcare homes.
Booking childcare services may be done as short as one day in advance or at least a week beforehand for the larger centres. Many daycare centres have waiting lists that extend into months. Give them a call to get specific arrangements.
